What do we believe happened?

Due to this jumper jumper alone, no one knew of his whereabouts and he has only just been discovered.

A message from the SBA:Unfortunately, it happens again and again that jumpers have accidents without anyone knowing where they are. This fatality is another example. We have made it a habit to send a message to someone at the exit if we are alone in the mountains. This message can look like this: “I'm at the Ecstasy Board (High Eiger, Grindelwald). I'll get back to you after landing (in about 10 minutes).” Make sure that your phone is sufficiently charged. If you jump in an area with a poor signal, write: “I'll get back to you in about 1 hour.” This will give you enough time to return to a populated area and no one will worry unnecessarily. Most of us tend to believe that death only strikes others. This is an illusion.

Be respectful to your beloved ones and inform someone about the planned jump. If you don’t, your selfishness can put your family in a very unpleasant situation. They will suffer terribly because they are desperate to know where you are, and they may have to pay for horrendous search and rescue costs.Imagine your girlfriend/boyfriend goes hiking - you have no idea where - and you don't hear from her for a few days. You could call the police, but what do you tell them? That your girlfriend is hiking somewhere in Switzerland? That is not a comfortable situation.

Check in before the jump - check out after landing. It's a small thing, but it helps a lot.
