What do we believe happened?

Updated as of 19th June 2026 - More will follow - Dannys colleagues will be writing a Bio in the days to weeks to come.

Andy and I left the house on Sunday the 14th of June at 5:45am on the dot. We drove to mineral bottom to meet his two clients, Danny and Kim Kregle from Arizona.
We drove to the drop off for Mari’s exit point where Andy, Danny and Kim got out of the vehicle with the base rigs and gear and started the short hike to the exit. Spirits were high as it was an incredibly beautiful morning with the sun rising and zero wind.

As usual I, the shuttle driver started the drive to the LZ which was about 10-15 min down mineral bottom switchbacks. I got the flag in place right at the LZ where it was normally placed and radioed to Andy that there was zero wind.
He replied that they were still taking their time hiking out to the exit point. I decided to wander around for a minute at the LZ enjoying the absolutely beautiful morning. It was so still and quiet that I could hear Andy, Danny and Kim talking at the exit. Andy gave me a call on the radio and said eyes on the sky in one minute. I replied, copy eyes in the sky in one minute.
I stood there in silence and could hear the countdown from five. The parachute fully opened and started flying for maybe one to one and a half seconds directly away from the Cliff.

As Andy often did he proceeded to take a right turn, which would’ve had them going past the prow of the cliff. This was a common pattern Andy flew when conditions were good. I could clearly hear Andy say yeaaaah as he normally did and heard Danny respond with a loud yeaaaaa as well.

The parachute continued to turn into the face of the cliff rather than straightening out to pass the cliff. They struck the wall almost straight forward. The canopy collapsed as they both fell from about 300’ straight down the wall impacting the talas slope.
I was able to find the insta360 camera but the file stopped on the countdown at 4. We are trying to have the rest of the file recovered and we will update if we are successful.

Sadly we have to report on this double fatality, Andy and his passenger both passed away from the injuries on this jump.

The Moab crew and his business partner will remember Andy for being the life of the party, who took everyone who would follow him on epic adventures.

The Moab community will never be the same without him and he will be missed.
A huge thanks to the first responders who did everything they could to save and rescue the two.

This is the first Tandem Base fatality in the history of Base jumping.
Family of both have been notified.
