Daniel Frey

Daniel and another jumper went to the Via Ferrata Bridge. His friend went handheld first and landed uneventfully on the way back to the Stechelberg Gondola. On his 360 camera Daniel is still standing on the bridge.
He planned on doing an inverted static line jump - falling backwards of the bridge.
The first jumper called others after a while asking if Daniel is already back at the packing area. He didn't see his canopy, but maybe just missed him. Rega was informed immidately. The Heli came and looked for him, but didn't see anything.
Jumpers went up again with the gondola and saw parts of a canopy in the gully. Shortly after a jumper got onto the bridge and was able to look more thoroughly directly from above, he spotted Daniel somehow wrapped up in his canopy in the gully.
Rega came again and was able to recover him. He probably died on impact.

If the video can be evaluated, some things will become clearer.

Daniel was a conservative, responsible jumper. He had slider down experience, but this jump was still new to him.
His open and friendly manner, and his fucking moustache will be missed deeply.

Camera - Daniel Frey:

Daniel started recording when he got onto the bridge. Before he jumped he turned his camera off. We suppose he just forgot that it was already running.

Camera - jumper 1:
- Bridle routing was correct through his legs
- Anchor point close to the vertical steel cable on the handrail - not ideal to get into the exit position (maybe he moved the anchor further away from it. It should have better been tied to the stepping surface to minimize risks.)
- Big gloves hanging down his wrists
- He impacted 40 seconds after the first jumpers exit
- It seemed to be an impact with nothing out, fell further down into the gully (wrapped himself up in his canopy that probably came out on impact - bridle and pilot chute were wrapped around his leg close to the legstrap)

Conclusion:
- Underestimation: Lack of knowledge in complex static line jumping (I don‘t know what I don‘t know)
- Maybe: narrow foot position, pushing to much, insufficient/off-axis rotation, anchor point not in the same line with the center of the body, slipping, …
- Nervousness and in a rush
- External influence
- Lower tolerance for risk
